Make sense of numbers below zero.
Read and order integers on a number line. Then add or subtract signed numbers through worked models and original questions. Choose the 20-question foundation or its expanded companion with six starting checks and 40 more practice questions.
This is one number foundation within Year 7 numeracy. Its practice is original, and the NAPLAN test itself spans every strand of numeracy.
The linked lessons and full practice set require a saved Year 7 goal and current learning access.
Read the position before calculating
How to work through it
- 1. Find the position. Locate negative values and zero on a common scale.
- 2. Follow the worked steps. Compare positions and trace each move across zero.
- 3. Try with support. Use a hint before checking the answer.
- 4. Apply it alone. The expanded companion has twenty independent and six revisit questions, with worked feedback and four private A4 editions.
The connected learning route
The saved route uses the existing NSW Learning Map. Number-line placement and two-digit subtraction lead directly to integer work; 9 earlier skills stay open to revisit.

The scope of this foundation
The national Year 7 proficiency descriptions include comparing and representing integers. The assessment spans number, algebra, measurement, space, statistics and probability; this route covers integer order and signed addition or subtraction. The expanded practice companion adds learner and full teaching explanations with matching student and answer print editions.
